A reworking of the album's closer 'Pink Maggit', it embodies the best of everything about 00's nu-metal heavy and melodic guitar work, aggressive rap rock vocals and spiky hair as far as the eye can see.įor a song that wasn't originally meant to be released, it turned out to be one of the catchiest of them all. Our first entry from what is probably the band's seminal and most popular album White Pony (2000), 'Back To School (Mini Maggit)' wasn't actually included in the record's original release, instead being added as the opening track to a re-release a few months later by their record label. The band also named their own IPA beer after the song, which you can grab here! 9 - Back To School (White Pony) White Pony (2000) Alice In Chains' Jerry Cantrell's guitar contribution to the song works perfectly and helps make it stand out in Deftones' catalogue as one of their best.
'Phantom Bride' was the one track which seemed to encapsulate every element into the one song, starting out as an atmospheric and blissful rock buildup into a huge outro with sludgy, down-tuned guitars at the 4:06 mark.
While the band's latest album Gore was their lightest album to date, it was a fantastic dynamic of the ambient, experimental sounds they had been leaning into over their last few albums and some very crushing guitars from Steven Carpenter. Over the course of eight albums to date ( and a ninth coming very soon!), there are so many fantastic Deftones songs out there, so it was a near-impossible task to whittle it down for a top 10 list. Some were very close to making the cut, while others were clear-cut winners read on for our picks of Deftones ' best ten tracks! 10 - Phantom Bride (Gore) Initially running with a scathing nu-metal sound throughout their first couple of albums, the band began to incorporate ambient, electronic and rock influences in each successive release, creating a totally unique sound which is still unmatched today. Of all the bands which shot to popularity during the nu-metal gold rush of the 1990's into the early 2000's, Deftones have managed to stay fresh and relevant 30 years into their career by evolving with each new release.
